Important Notice To Members

BALMAIN BOWLING CLUB

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO MEMBERS

June 2026

The Board of Directors wishes to update members on several significant developments affecting the future of Balmain Bowling Club.

After a detailed review of the Club’s financial position, the Board has determined that the Club can no longer continue trading in a financially sustainable manner. Despite the efforts of management, staff, and volunteers to improve operating performance, ongoing financial losses and increasing costs have made it impossible for the Club to maintain its current operations.

As a result, the Board has made the difficult decision to cease trading and close the Club, effective close of trade Saturday 13th June 2026.

While this is disappointing news, there is also a significant positive development to report. The Club has recently received Development Application approval from Inner West Council for substantial renovations and improvements to the Club premises. This approval represents an important milestone and provides a pathway for the future revitalisation of the site.

The approved redevelopment offers the opportunity to:

  1. Modernise and upgrade Club facilities;
  2. Improve accessibility and amenities for members and visitors;
  3. Secure the long-term future of bowling and community activities at the site; and
  4. Create a more sustainable and financially viable operation for future generations.

Although the current financial circumstances have necessitated the Club’s closure, the Board is encouraged by the approval of the Development Application and the potential it creates for the site’s future. The redevelopment represents a significant investment in preserving the Club’s legacy and ensuring the location remains an important community asset.

The Board acknowledges the proud history of Balmain Bowling Club and the contribution made by generations of members, volunteers, staff, and supporters. This decision has not been taken lightly, and we recognise the impact it will have on our members and the broader community.

Members will be kept regularly informed of developments and progress relating to the approved redevelopment and future plans for the site. The Board is committed to maintaining open and transparent communication throughout this process and will provide updates as key milestones are achieved.

We sincerely thank all members for their loyalty, support, and dedication to Balmain Bowling Club over many years. While this chapter is coming to an end, the Board remains optimistic that the approved redevelopment will provide the foundation for a stronger and more sustainable future at this historic site.
