Who would have thought that in 1883, the Balmain Council constructed a 30 yard long baths at White Horse Point. The opening of the shark proof tidal baths prompted the formation of the Balmain Swimming Club. The Balmain Swimming Club was the first swimming association in Australia to reach its centenary. 3 years before in 1880, the Balmain Bowling Club commenced. Whilst both organisations are still going strong, Balmain Council no longer exists. And, White Horse Point Pool, is now called Dawn Fraser Baths.
